2026 marks a significant milestone for Lusben, as the company celebrates its 70th anniversary. Founded in Viareggio in 1956, Lusben has grown into a structured refit operation built around three complementary sites — Livorno, Viareggio and Varazze — and a long-term commitment to strengthening its operational capabilities.
Among the most significant recent developments, the new 720-tonne travel lift installed in Viareggio will allow the yard to haul and handle yachts up to 55 metres. In Livorno, the refit of the 180-metre floating dock Mediterraneo further reinforces the strategic role of the site for complex projects and yachts up to 150 metres. Also in Livorno, work has begun on a new crew lounge, reflecting Lusben’s continued focus on enhancing the experience offered to crews throughout their stay at the yard.
These infrastructure investments come at a time of major change for the refit sector. According to BOATPro data reported by International Boat Industry, the global superyacht fleet has grown from 1,925 units in 1986 to 13,587 in 2026, confirming a structural expansion that is reshaping the industry. Within this context, refit is increasingly recognised as a strategic activity for preserving, upgrading and enhancing the existing yacht fleet, while responding to growing demand for specialist expertise, technical capacity, planning and execution quality.
