LIVORNO
VIA EDDA FAGNI 1, 57123 LIVORNO LI

At the beginning of the 16th century, Livorno was nothing more than a tiny village, and most probably it would have stayed the same if it was not for the de’ Medici family, who decided to create a new efficient city. Today Livorno is the biggest port in Tuscany, nonetheless one of the most important in the Mediterranean. The port is divided into two main complexes: The Old Port and the New Port.  The most interesting architectonic part of the city centre, the one that was least affected by the devastation of war, is Venezia Nuova district, named so because of the similarity of the canals with the ones in Venice.  Skippers and crews can enjoy a marvellous historical stroll, Viale Italia, that runs along the coast immersed into the typical vegetation. Amongst the seaside resorts, one to visit is the famous “Scoglio della Regina”, Queen of Etruria Maria Luisa of Spain’s favourite. Also, not to be missed is the Giovanni Fattori Museum in Villa Mimbelli and the typical Vettovaglie Market, designed by the architect Badaloni in 1894. Livorno, while steeped in history, it is a modern city overflowed with attractions that will satisfy lovers of art, music, and culinary delicacies (do not miss the famous fish cacciucco). For those who love relaxing, a few kilometres from the city centre, immersed into National parks, through medieval villages and vineyards of international fame one can find golf clubs, riding stables and thermal baths.
